You are not my son

The Christmas story is one of the most compelling ever told. It includes politics, hardship, incredible natural and supernatural phenomena, all centred around the birth of a world-changing child.

Healthy Marriages

5 Common Causes of Marriage Breakdowns

One of the most common problems that we see at the counselling centre are people who are struggling with their marriages. Marriages are under increasing pressure, and there are a number of reasons for this.

Joshua's Story

Late afternoon swimming in Knysna Lagoon at Bollard beach with his brothers and other friends. It was a bit crowded so he moved from his usual position, dived in and hit his head on a sandbank. His arms went lame. Being a qualified lifeguard he knew instinctively that something was seriously wrong. A Special Community Group

As it is, there are many parts, but one body. The eye cannot say to the hand, ‘I don't need you!’ And the head cannot say to the feet, ‘I don't need you!’ On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable1 Corinthians 12:20-22

Write On! A morning with Chippy Brand

"Write On!" is an initiative of RUC aimed at those who love words: reading the words of others, and writing words of their own. More than 100 people receive our newsletters about writing events and opportunities.
Our most recent event featured the founder of the "Grace" hotel group, Chippy Brand. Ninety people gathered to listen as this successful entrepreneur shared his fascinating life story in a humorous, yet humble way.

Ruth Maxwell's News

Thank you for the welcome you gave me many years ago when I first landed in South Africa and arrived at RUC. Thank you for your encouragement in my life and support in ministry over the years I was in your midst. Thank you for praying for me now and for supporting me as I give to others in other parts of the world the same kind of encouragement you gave to me.

Pemba in December

‘Your God is too safe’. That’s what I read in Mark Buchanan’s book of the same name recommended to me by Irene Robinson. And I felt challenged by what I read. Was I fulfilled in my comfortable Christianity? Was I willing to take risks for the God of wonder? With a sense of unease, I knew the answers to these questions. And I knew I needed to do something about it.

Adoptive Families

I was sceptical at first. Although I didn’t say it, I was thinking things like: “you haven’t given yourselves enough time to fall pregnant before considering adoption,” “don’t rush into it,”  “have you tried this or that procedure?”, “it’s scary adopting, you don’t know what you’ll get,” “it’s a life time commitment.”
