The Gospel

The word "Gospel" essentially means "Good News". It's the good news that God loves us and that he longs for us to be in an abiding and life-giving covenant relationship with him, and that through Jesus he has made this possible. Our longing at RUC is that you will come to know this love of God, as Paul writes,

"I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
Ephesians 3:16-19

God has demonstrated his great love for us in that while were were still far from him and and separated from him because of our sinfulness, he reached down and made a way for us to be reconciled with him through Jesus' death on the cross.

We are convinced that faith in Jesus is the only remedy to the problem of sin in our lives and in the world. As a result, we are committed to announcing this gospel to the world and to making disciples of Jesus Christ who will in turn make disciples of Jesus Christ.

So what is the Gospel?

If you are seeking a first time relationship with Jesus and would like to understand the basic message of the Gospel, then there are four things in the Bible that you just shouldn’t miss:

  • 1 The PLAN
  • 2 The GAP
  • 3 The BRIDGE
  • 4 The ACTION

God loves you and created you to have a personal relationship with Him.

“All things were created by Him and for Him.”
Colossians 1:16b

Our sin keeps us from a personal relationship with God.

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
Romans 3:23

Only through Jesus’ death on the cross can we have a personal relationship with God.

“Jesus said,
“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
John 14:6

You must personally respond by trusting Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour and Lord.

“For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”

John 3:16
