About Ignition
As a youth development NPO, working in Alexandra, we focus on addressing the inequalities and disparities
experienced by young individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. We help them build the skills and
character needed to transcend their circumstances to succeed in their tertiary education, their careers,
financially, and in life in general. The wrap-around support we offer includes: career guidance, training,
mentoring, coaching, work readiness programmes, psycho-social support, and personal development
initiatives. Individuals stay in our programme from the end of grade 11, through university and includes their
first working year.

We are looking for:
• A University degree (preference for people or business related degrees, eg. HR / Business / Psychology /
Psychometry related degrees)
• At least 5 years work experience, including corporate experience
• Must live in Johannesburg
• Strong, proven admin and planning capabilities
• Ability to drive project to deadlines and to high standards
• High proficiency in Excel (PowerPoint and Word)
• Have an eye for detail
• Knowledge of tertiary education sector and qualifications that are available would assist
• Wide interest and knowledge of range of jobs and careers, or at least a curiosity around this
• Professional communication skills and ability to network and build lasting relationships
• Ability to evaluate the work of career counsellors, and think critically and creatively around alternatives
• Must have a passion for education
• Be positive about the future of SA people
• Self-starter and takes initiative
• Work well unsupervised, and communicate well with the team, and able to ask for help when needed

Brief Job Description
A. Expansion of Existing Career Guidance (CG) Programme – 50% of the job
Manage process of career guidance from the point that students join Ignition in Grade 11 to registering in
tertiary studies in the subsequent year.
• Co-ordinate all arrangements and communications around various events
• Capture and track progress of each individual
• Set up job shadowing
• Assist with university applications and alternative placements where necessary
• Evaluate the output of the career guidance process for each individual, and intervene where additional
assistance is required
• Monitor programme progress and drive delivery to deadlines
• M&E reporting
• Research and develop knowledge of in demand career fields, and the associated course options.
• Develop and maintain database of information to assist students and learners with careers research.
Note: This role does not involve doing psychometric assessments as these are done by our partner organisation

B. General Operations – 50% of job
1) Mentor Programme
• Mentor students
• Administer the M&E
2) Event Planning – logistics and planning
3) Upkeep of programme admin and databases
4) Administer the application and recruitment process – including interview and selection
5) Communications – with all stakeholders
6) General Student Support
