Life is full of uncertainties, trials and distractions, and it is all-too-easy to lose sight of what is really important. Add to the mix our own temptations that pull us away from God, and the presence of false prophets and teachings, even within Christian congregations, and we may fall
into despair, disillusionment or defeat.
Peter, following in the footsteps of many of the Hebrew prophets, and Jesus himself, wants us to flourish in life, knowing that through faith in Messiah Jesus we can live in hope, looking forward to his return. Yet his return will also bring judgment upon the world, from which none can escape, and how we live should reflect this reality.
Dr Robert Yarbrough (Professor of New Testament at Covenant Theological Seminary) has been involved in training pastors and other ministry leaders around the world, and is presently writing a commentary on 2 Peter. He has been travelling to Africa for many years, including multiple visits to Sudan, and has been coming to South Africa for almost a decade. Bob has helped many local leaders grow in their walk with the Lord and service of his people. He has the gift of being able to unpack the meaning of a text with the skill of a bible scholar, and to apply it with the insight and wisdom of a seasoned pastor.
Willliam J. Shields (Pastor of First Lutheran Church in Princeton, Illinois) is a graduate of Wheaton College and Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. Pastor William J. Shields has almost 4 decades of experience in pastoral ministry. He is currently the pastor of First Lutheran Church in Princeton, Illinois. Pastor Bill has been travelling to Africa with Dr Yarbrough since 2009, speaking to pastors and other church workers in Sudan, South Sudan, and South Africa. He has been a great encouragement to leaders in the Cape Flats, and we are excited about his first visit to Johannesburg!
